From baptism of son Richard.

Son Richard was the only Blackmore baptised in Buckland Brewer. There were only two marriages listed and one was a Thomas Blackmore, but much later (second marriage?)

Of the right period and relatively close to Buckland Brewer there was the following marriage, extracted from the transcripts of Devon marriages 1754-1812 - the only marriage of a Thomas and Susanna.

Blackmore Thomas and Petherick Susanna at Huntshaw on 1 Dec 1785. There is an "N" on the transcript to indicate there are notes in the register
This marriage gives credence to the belief that his wife was called Petherick as their son Richard named his first daughter Susan Petherick Blackmore
The IGI states that the groom was JOHN Blackmore. However, the North Devon Record Office checked the fiche for Huntshaw. The marriage was between THOMAS Blackmore and Susanna Petherick, both "of this parish", on 1 Dec 1785 and the witnesses were James Blackmore (brother) and John Chilkins(who signed many entries). Thomas and the witnesses signed the register but Susanna made their mark.

Thomas Blackmore of this Parish Husbandman and Susanna Petherick of this Parish Spinster Married in this Church by Banns this First Day of December in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Five by me Jno Snell Rector.
This marriage was solemnized between us - signed Thomas Blackmore and The Mark of Susanna X Petherick
In the Presence of - James Blackmore John Chilkins
- It appears that the entries contain the original signatures of the people rather than being "written up" later

It is probable that James was Thomas' brother (my gt gt gt gt grandfather)

As stated there was only one Thomas/Susanna baptism at Buckland Brewer. In fact the IGI only lists one baptism in Devon with parents Thomas/Susanna.

In view of the mix up with the marriage, I also checked the Devon baptisms for John/Susanna - 33 in total at any date
