General Notes:
Assuming 1856 marriage of Mary to John Thorne is correct - it was after they already had 6 children. But the death of Mary Evans that was registered by Mary Thorne of Fremington seems to confirm everything is correct.

It is therefore possible, but unproved, that Edmund's parents were Joseph and Jane above. Bearing in mind that one of the witnesses at his married was John Webber, there was a marriage in Braunton on 29 April 1790 of Benjamin Evans to Elizabeth Webber.

This is the last will and testament of Edmund Evans (Carpenter) of the parish of Braunton in the County of Devon. I give unto my beloved wife Mary Evans during her natural life without (impeachment or waste) everything of which I may be possessed of at the time of my death. And after the death of my wife I give and bequeath unto my Son Richard Evans his heirs and assigns all of the rest residue and remainder of or in the account of any property whatever in which I may be in any way interested at the time of my death subject as follows. Whereas my Daughter Mary some years since made a Deed of Assignment unto me of her Interest in a certain Tenement in Braunton called Parkins Tenement reference being had to such Deed will plainly appear. In consequence of which said Deed of Assignment I have charge my Executor hereinafter named to pay unto my said daughter Mary out of proceeds of the House and Garden where I now reside called (Barn's Tenement) the sum of one pound ten shillings yearly and every year should she outlive my before named Wife and not otherwise. I constitute and appoint my son Richard Evans the sole executor of this my last Will and Testament I also direct that if I should have a Horse or Horses at the time of my death I give the same with immediate posession together with all harness etc unto the said Richard Evans But if the said Richard Evans should die before his mother leaving no lawful issue then whatever property may be left to be equally divided among all my surviving Children except my daughter Elizabeth Ann Passmore. Probate and Will from 1865 On the eighth day of February 1865, the Will of Edmund Evans late of Braunton in the County of Devon Carpenter deceased, who died on the twenty first day of January 1864 at Braunton aforesaid was proved in the District Registry attached to Her Majesty's Court of Probate at Exeter by the Oath of Mary Evans of Braunton aforesaid widow, the Relict of the deceased, the sole Executrix therein named she having been first sworn duly to administer. The probate of a will of the said deceased, bearing date the seventeenth day of February 1855, & granted by authority of the said Court at the said District Registry in the month of February 1864 to Richard Evans the sole Executor therein named, having been brought in and revoked by order of one of the Registrars of the Principal Registry dated the third day of February 1865. This is the last Will and Testament of Edmund Evans (Carpenter) of the parish of Braunton in the County of Devon. I hereby give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Evans all and everything of which I may be posessed of at the time of my death (subject to the payment of my just debts and other incidental expenses) to be by her enjoyed during her natural life and whatsoever she may not want to use and expend and may be left at the time of her decease I hereby give and bequeath unto my son Richard Evans and his heirs and assigns for ever. And I further appoint the before named Mary Evans my Wife the sole executrix of this my Will. And now revoking and setting aside all former Wills made by me I do hereby declare this to be my last Will and Testament made this seventh day of April one thousand eight hundred and sixty two. In the Goods of Edmund Evans deceased I William Reed of Braunton in the County of Devon Shoemaker make Oath that I am one of the subscribing Witnesses to the last Will and Testament of Edmund Evans, late of Braunton in the County of Devon Carpenter, deceased the said Will being now hereunto annexed, bearing date the seventh day of April One thousand eight hundred and sixty two, and that the said Testator executed the said Will on the day of the date thereof, by signing his name at the foot or end thereof as the same nnow appears thereon in the presence of me and of William Alfred Reed the other subscribed Witness thereto both of us being present at the same time and we thereupon attested and subscribed the said Will in the presence of the said Testator - William Reed - Sworn at Barnstaple in the County of Devon on the twenty fourth day of January 1865 before me - John C Gribble a Commissioner to administer Oaths in Chancery in England
